The performance calls the spectators to share a very special experience since the archaelogical site provides the possibility of a new capacity space, the one tha Art is trying to discover since the early beginning. The words "Space", "Psyche", "Light", "Body" and "Knowledge" are the key aspects of the artistic venture. "Space" is connected with culture and the artist, "Psyche" and "Light" are bound to emotion and objectivity, while "Body" and "Knowledge" are bold vessels of thought, attracting interest for the arts that circle the performance. Artists coexist with the spectators. Common ground for everyone is the surrounding space of the Temple of Apollo Epicurius.

Sound installation - Music

The role of sound and music, sometimes accompanying and other times primordial, is characterized by its evocative and initiatory qualities.

Trifon Koutsourelis creates a peculiar three-tier cluster of abstracted sounds, multidimensional sound effects, and specially processed pulses, tailored to the three main parts of the task.
First there is an introduction and submission to the atmosphere of this peculiar overnight, then an active participation in a marriage of space with light and sound and finally an initiatory guidance to the depths of the subconscious.

In the third part, during the participants' sleep, binaural beats and specially designed intervals are used to stimulate and coordinate brain waves at specific frequencies and in correspondence with sleep cycles.

Temple of Apollo Epicurius at Bassae –The Architecture of the Divine

Standing eternally proud, in the central Peloponese, this famous temple to the god of healing and the sun was built towards the middle of the 5th century B.C. in the lonely heights of the Arcadian mountains. This universal architectural gem was the first of the great monuments of Greece to be recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage site in 1986.

Ictinus, the great Greek architect of the Acropolis of Athens, made an extensive study of the surrounding area when he undertook the building of the temple. The play of light and shadow creates the illusion that the temple is smaller than its actual size, revealing its true dimensions to the observer only gradually as they draw near. In this way the monument does not force or impose its volume on the space, but exudes power and inspires awe when one is close to it. At the same time, it creates an evolving relationship with the god himself, Apollo, with light being the main element in this gradual revelation.

Incubation, an Ancient Greek Ritual

The Dream and Sleep Performance series - From Darkness to Light | Bodies

Incubation is the religious practice of sleeping in a sacred area with the intention of experiencing a divinely inspired dream or cure. Incubation was practised by many ancient cultures. Ancient Greeks placed great importance on dreams. By following the right diets, listening to music and mental focus they would prepare themselves for having dreams. Dreaming was an opportunity to understand existence beyond the awake state. Aristotle wrote in his treatise “On Dreams”: “when one is asleep, there is something in consciousness which tells us that what presents itself is but a dream.”

Starting from the epic poems of Homer and Hesiod in the 8th century bce, the significance attributed to sleep and dreams lead in the 6th century bc to the creation of the ritual enkoimesis or dream incubation that became an established healing practice in the sanctuaries of Asklepios.

The soul observes the body during sleep and informs on any impending problem manifested by dreams. The dream was regarded as guidance from Asclepius. In the dream Asclepius would give advice or touch the patient in the area that was suffering. In some cases, once awake patients felt rejuvenated and cured.
