As Shadow As Dream / Anamnesis
Date
In the site-specific performance “As Shadow As Dream” /Anamnesis, created by Apostolia Papadamaki, especially for the Archaeological Museum of Thessaloniki, the performers and the audience share every moment in an active, participatory way.
'Thessaloniki', the tragic female figure who was named after her father Philip’s victory over the Thessalians and was brutally murdered by her son Antipater, serves as the inspiration for this participatory performance of historical fragments. It portrays the historical persona of Princess Thessaloniki, who, though often considered a pawn in male struggles, proves to be a figure with her own will and dynamism.
Her tragic story and violent end highlight the ongoing intrigues and ruthless politics that characterised the Hellenistic Macedonian period. Her life, full of contrasts and struggles, mirrors the fate of many women of the time, who, although largely manipulated by the men around them, sought their influence and position with courage and persistence.
The performance aims to express the multi-layered emotional states of the archetypal female nature and connect them with the present era, a time that finds women in a controversial relationship with themselves and deeply disconnected from their instinctive, essential, and authentic needs.
